Cluster
2007
Interactive installation at the Margaret Lawrence gallery.
Cluster was created by Plump, a collective including Phillip Samartsis (sound art), Dave Brown (sound art) and Marc Rogerson (sculpture and interactivity). I wanted to create an immersive installation which reflected the Uncertainty Principle by Werner Heisenberg. The action of observing the piece caused it to change, thereby making it unobservable. This was achieved by using proximity sensors, fans and 2 compementary soundscapes by David and Phillip. The Australian Institute of Physics kindly lent their imprimatur to the show. A paper about the ideas in the show was co-written by David Paganin of Monash University and I and was published in a book titled Challenging the Divide. Edited by Erica Jolly. Lythrum Press 2009.
