Abstract 3, 2020
Sculpture 2020-2021
Resin and terrazzo
600 high, 600 wide, 600 deep
The form rushed out of the cube. I am deeply interested in the aleatory qualities of nature; how there is deep randomness when gazing into a rockpool or a cloud. If I can evoke some inner stirring in the viewer of my art, I hope that I may have tapped into this natural force. In creating the fluid forms of these pieces I am pushing, moulding and encouraging clay to reflect my sketches and maquettes. Using resin, both reflected, projected and diffused light can lend illumination, chiaroscuro and ambiguity to the organic part of the sculptures. The cubes of terrazzo are like the human consciousness that we all possess: limited and partly glimpsing the deep poetry of nature.
